Here are Alain and Salva's tasting notes:
Colour: Apple juice
Nose: An entry marked by notes of solvent-acetone and marzipan, nostalgically evoking the glue tubes of our childhood. Then come sweet hints of pineapple candy, ripe banana and vanilla, creating a rich, seductive opening.
Palate: The attack reveals a lovely fresh pineapple, followed by overripe banana and pomelo, with a notable presence of its albedo (that famous white skin which adds a subtle hint of bitterness). In the second half of the palate, an astonishing note of Granny Smith apple appears, adding a surprisingly pleasant touch of acidity. Hints of vanilla, a hint of baked marzipan and a very discreet presence of spices complete the experience.
Finish: Finally, a delicate wisp of smoke envelops these aromas, leading to a moderately long finish with a slight astringency.
Conclusion: A real success! When it's good, it's good, quite simply. The 20% New Yarmouth brings a remarkable depth to the wine, enriching the aromatic density that is often a little timid in Hampden wines aged mainly on the continental shelf. Here, the balance is perfectly mastered: an accessible approach, without over-simplification, with just the right amount of complexity. In short, this is a composition that is seductive in its harmony and depth.
