Rhum Vieux Agricole, distilled at Montebello in 2022, first matured in oak casks, then finished in a stoneware egg, 63.9%, only 320 bottles, 500ml
"From the untamed depths of the French West Indies was born a wild rum; it braved raging seas, dreamed for three long years in the darkness, then awoke transformed within the silence of a stoneware egg."
Colour: Amber
Nose: Fresh sugar cane immediately takes centre stage with particularly expressive aromas of noble vegetal notes, freshly pressed cane juice and white flowers. With aeration, the rum becomes more indulgent, revealing warm brioche, brown sugar, soft vanilla and almond paste. Delicate spices, somewhere between cinnamon and nutmeg, add depth without overshadowing the natural freshness of the distillate.
Palate: The attack is lively and spirited. Fresh cane remains dominant but quickly develops a more pastry-like texture reminiscent of vanilla custard, lightly toasted brioche and acacia honey. Gentle spices accompany the profile with elegance, while a beautiful vegetal tension preserves remarkable freshness. The balance between youthfulness, indulgence and classic agricole character is particularly successful.
Finish: Long and refreshing, with fresh cane lingering alongside notes of white pepper, vanilla and soft spices. A crisp, mouthwatering sensation remains for a long time and immediately invites another sip.
Conclusion: This Montebello perfectly illustrates the meeting point between the vibrant freshness of a great agricole rum and the first signs of maturation in oak. Fresh cane remains at the heart of the aromatic profile, supported by pastry-like sweetness and gentle spices that bring depth and complexity. A precise, luminous and particularly expressive rum.
