« The whizz of fireworks, tyres burning on the bonfire, and sparklers held in woollen mittens illuminate the vans selling toffee apples, hot chocolate, and watercress soup with spiced buttered brioche. »
Colour: Red copper
Nose: From the beginning, it is very generous and complex. Malted and roasted cereal aromas come through first, enveloped by a sweetness brought by the vinous character of the Barolo cask. Black fruits such as blackcurrant and plum add depth, while an elegant, subtle woodiness balances the whole with notes of toasted oak.
Palate: A beautiful complexity with a fine texture is instantly revealed. Cereal notes join with vinous flavours, bringing a rich palette of ripe, almost jammy black fruit. A few hints of pastry, such as caramelised Tarte Tatin or buttered brioche, add a warm dimension. Melted chocolate by the fireside and elegant, toasty oak all add richness and smoothness.
Finish: Black fruit and spice lead the way, with noble wood accompanied by the soft smoke of freshly lit fireworks.
Conclusion: A warm, delicious dram that has spent more than 15 years in barrels of Italian Barolo wine, which has brought out the sweetness and dark fruits to match the cereal and pastry character of this Speyside whisky.
